The test matches between women’s International teams are also hosted at this ground, and the first test match was held here in 1969 between the women’s teams of England and New Zealand. Christchurch City Council owns the Hagley Oval cricket stadium and it is managed by Canterbury Cricket team

The capacity of the ground is 9000 and 500 seats are installed in the stadium. The capacity of the ground can be expanded to 18000 for high-voltage matches. Floodlights are installed in this stadium for the day-night matches.
